Enver meets Saliha

The picture may seem like an ordinary situation. In many ways, it is. What is not ordinary, is that this is Saliha Osmanovic and Enver Husic sitting outside the house of Saliha. As described in the previous post, Enver was likely the last person to see the husband and son of Saliha. Enver managed miraculously to escape and survived the genocide (more on that later). This summer, 20 years after the genocide, he got a chance to meet with Saliha. It was a very special meeting. It seems appropriate to depict it in this way. It seems right to let them talk.

Enver is revisiting the field, near Kamenice.

Enver Husic met Ramo and Nermin. He was 15 years old at the time, when he was in the same group as them, trying to escape from the killings taking place in and around Srebrenica. When Ramo Osmanovic was forced to scream in front of the camera to get his son to come forward, Enver stood right behind him. Enver was likely the last Bosnian Muslim to have seen them both alive, on this field near the village of Kamenice.
Enver is standing where he was with Ramo amongst more then 1200 captured people on July 13th 1995. This photo was taken on July 9th, 2015- 20 years after the Genocide in Srebrenica.

Nermin. Ramo. Srebrenica 1995

'Nermin! come here, they will help us, we are safe'. This is roughly what Ramo said shouted to his son, in order to make him come forward. Ramos, as well as his son was exhausted. He was most likely hungry and thirsty after having walked for two days. A week earlier (On July 6th), he and his wife, Saliha Osmanovic had buried their youngest son, Edin who was killed by a grenade. They, together with over a thousand others, had been walking for two days- trying to escape from the Bosnian Serb forces who had taken Srebrenica on July 11th 1995. When Ramo screams out for his son, they have all been captured. Most of them were likely killed in what is known as the Kravica massacre. They are standing near Kamenice, not far from Kravica, around 45 minutes drive from Srebrenica.
Ramo shouts the name of his son, Nermin, while being filmed by a Bosnian Serb soldier and having a gun pointed at him. The footage is shown at the Potocari Memorial centre, just outside Srebrenica.

Craftsmanship- Bhutan.

I have shown samples from Bhutan in he past- I place I miss- I hope the opportunities comes back again in the future. Anyway- visiting this carpenter workshop I met with a very skilled man. He was working on preserving an alter in one of the many temples or Dzongs. In Bhutan, you have the 13 arts - the students are often trained to be able to preserve and to keep up the traditional arts of Bhutan- It means working on the history, the monasteries as well as the different festivals that tae s place in Bhutan.

Greece- A Wedding and the storm.

Just a small note. The Wedding was great- but so was the storm. Before the electricity went, this is what was left by bar on the beach...

The State: Ladonia- The Art: Nimis by Lars Vilks

"Nimis" is a sculpture made by driftwood located a few kilometres from the beautiful little village of Arild in southern Sweden. The story is long- but the short version is as follows... The artist Lars Vilks decided to make a sculpture called Nimis (Latin, it means "too much"- see the Wikipedia link above). It is made by driftwood in a location hard to reach. It was not noticed for two years (construction started in 1980). The problem was that it is a nature reserve- the local council consequently ordered it to be removed. Lars Vilks appealed and eventually declared it his own state: Ladonia! Clearly, the court case continued- but eventually, the artist was allowed to build a sculpture on the location and Nimis has become possibly the most important tourist attraction in the area near Arild...

Scandinavian summer

It was windy, 11meters per second. That means waves that seems large. At least in a small boat. Then again, it is not unusual for summer in Scandinavia- Great to be back.
